What is CoastKeepers?

Why create CoastKeepers?

Why create CoastKeepers?

There are many threats that face NSW oceans and CoastKeepers can play an active role in helping to overcome these by:

- Providing a workforce of skilled and enthusiatic volunteers to overcome threats to our marine and foreshore environment.

- Collecting baseline and subsequent ongoing scientific information necessary to manage and protect our marine environment. A lack of information about our oceans is impeding progress with environmental management of this area. By collecting baseline scientific information and providing this to environmental managers, CoastKeepers can contribute to improved knowledge and planning for this area.

- Increasing community awareness and interaction with their marine and foreshore environment. By increasing community interaction with our natural marine environment, CoastKeepers help educate the community and help generate for safeguarding this precious area

- Reducing visual threats to our marine environment. Invasive weeds and marine debris all pose visible threats. CoastKeepers can help remove potentially harmful materials and weeds from our oceans and foreshore.

What are some problems along our coast and in our oceans?

  • Visual problems such as debris and weeds.
  • Destruction of fragile habitats.
  • A general lack of awareness of environmental problems and solutions.
  • Not enough scientific information about our oceans habitats and inhabitants
  • The need for a workforce to assist in volunteer projects
